ABOUT JOYCE

Joyce Grear is an accomplished storyteller who has toured the United States since 1987. A native of Wilmington, North Carolina, Grear is renowned for her "First Person Interpretations."

Many of Grear's performances present African-American heroines. Their lives inspire her to tell their story. She has performed, locally, nationally and internationally, as Phyllis Wheatley, Harriett Tubman, Mary McLeod Bethune and Minnie Evans. Her moving portrayals of Harriet "Moses" Tubman have won praise from students as well as teachers, and wide recognition from her peers.

Joyce Grear has serviced North Carolina Arts Council's Tour Program and the South Carolina Arts Commission's approved roster and has received funding from the Southern Arts Federation.
